Why Convert WebP to JPG?

WebP is great for the web, but compatibility outside the browser is still patchy. Many apps, email clients, and older devices simply cannot open a WebP file. JPG is the most universally compatible photo format — every camera, printer, photo editing app, messaging platform, and social network can read it without issues. Converting a WebP to JPG is the fastest way to share an image with anyone, anywhere, without worrying about whether their software supports the format.

When JPG Is the Right Choice

  • Sharing via email or messaging apps — many email clients and mobile apps strip or reject WebP attachments.
  • Sending to a print shop — printers and print-on-demand services almost universally require JPG or TIFF.
  • Uploading to social platforms — Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn accept JPG natively and may re-compress WebP.
  • Editing in older software — Photoshop versions before 23.2 (2021) and most non-web tools cannot open WebP.
  • Archiving photos — JPG is a safer long-term format because it has been standard for 30+ years.

Quality Setting Guide

JPG quality is a trade-off between file size and visual sharpness. Higher quality means a larger file; lower quality compresses more aggressively and introduces visible artefacts. Use the slider to find the right balance for your use case:

Use CaseRecommended QualityExpected Size
Email / messaging70–80%Very small
Social media80–85%Small
Print / archival90–95%Larger
Web publishing80–85%Small, sharp

For most photos, 85% produces a file that is visually indistinguishable from 100% while being 3–5× smaller.

Transparency in WebP → JPG

JPG does not support transparency. Any transparent or semi-transparent pixels in your WebP are filled with a solid background colour before conversion. The default is white, which suits most photos and logos on light backgrounds. If your image has a transparent background designed for a dark page or coloured background, switch the background colour picker to match before converting — this prevents unsightly white halos around the subject.

Privacy: Your File Never Leaves Your Device

The entire conversion runs in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. No file is uploaded to a server, no account is required, and nothing is stored. This makes the tool safe for confidential images such as product mockups, ID documents or proprietary screenshots.
